Modern Oriental @ Hougang Meadow
DESIGNED BY
A 4-room house , which we transformed into a cozy, stylish and modern oriental flat with an ambience of a private apartment. Circular details are used on the shoe cabinet and kitchen cabinet handles having a 'Yuan Man', which means all-round contentment as rounded object represent movement and energy. Designer oriental panel as a sliding door to segregate the living room from the bedrooms to cater privacy, in additional smaller panels are used as the bedhead feature wall in the master bedroom that carry on the flow. With a mix of personal touch the owners bought and added their own spin on the interior, with interesting furniture and decor to complete the whole style of oriental.

" Our journey with Unity ID commenced when we approached them with our modern oriental concept. Unity ID was the third out of four interior design firms we had approached. Unlike other firms, Kef and Kelly from Unity ID listened carefully to our desired concept before presenting a detailed, relevant and specific mood board to us that conceptualised the elements we sought. We were really impressed with how they involved the team and took time to seek out inspirations to build the mood board even before the quotations were given.
To be honest, it was difficult to decide which interior designer we should engage.
Initially, it was hard to understand the pricing discrepancies among IDs or contractors. For an example, the same item e.g. per foot run of a wardrobe or a cabinet varied a fair bit among the received quotations. However, we went with our gut feel and chose Unity. Firstly, they promised two interior designers, Kef and Kelly, to our project. This stood out to us and demonstrated their commitment to our home renovations. They were also very attentive to our requests and invested time and effort to incorporate specific elements in our home.
As works on our home began, both Kef and Kelly were patient and very responsible. They gave valuable feedback to us on furniture choices, soft furnishings and tiles. Do involve them in your decision making process (like choosing the design of lights, or the type of toilet bowl) as they will have their own experience to share with you. This greatly reduced the risk of purchasing unsuitable furniture and allowed our time, efforts and costs to be managed effectively.
The renovations commenced when we took a three week holiday. We were kept updated via our Whatsapp group on the renovations progress, along with any questions they had for us. By the time we returned, the renovations were almost completed! This progress had greatly exceeded our expectations. We learnt that their competent team of electricians, carpenters, tilers etc. are all in house. This allowed them to have strong coordination among the different teams. We were particularly grateful that the team reacted swiftly and accommodated our last minute changes. A safe we ordered from Taobao came in the wrong dimensions, and they had to alter our wardrobe compartment to fit the bigger safe. They readily agreed to do it without additional charges.
Anyone who has done renovations would understand that it is process spanning over a few months. There would be hiccups and frequent changes during the various stages of conceptualisation, planning and execution. Communication is key and we are happy to say that they were were quick and responsible to fix the issues that cropped up. They have been very responsive and they had a ready answer at anytime we messaged them (even till 10pm, or on weekends).
They just completed the handover today (2 weeks ahead of schedule). Whilst we still have some minor changes to be made (e.g. changing the brightness of ceiling lights), they have willingly and promptly offered their help. This is unlike other companies that will be calculative once the project ends. As a client, we are deeply appreciative of their dedication.
The effort to build your dream home should be a collaborative effort. Both Kef and Kelly had clearly exceeded our expectations.
Kef and Kelly, thank you so much for the pleasant first time experience in bringing our concept to life. We are very happy with the results of our home.
To prospective home owners, if you are looking for a bespoke concept company that can make your dreams into reality realistically, give them a try. "
